Description

Complete zinc pencil anode for engine cooling systems, heat exchangers, oil coolers and aftercoolers. The CME1 comes as a full assembly — a brass plug with the zinc pencil already threaded in — ready to install. Martyr CME anodes meet or exceed the spec of the anodes supplied as original equipment.

Pencil zincs sacrifice themselves to protect the more valuable metals in your raw-water cooling system from galvanic corrosion. Check them regularly and replace when about half the zinc is gone.

Specifications

  • Brand: Martyr Anodes
  • Part number: CME1
  • Pencil diameter: 1/2"
  • Pencil length: 2"
  • Plug thread: 3/8" NPT (brass)
  • Pencil-to-plug thread: 3/8-16 UNC
  • Material: Zinc, die-cast to US military alloy specification
  • For use in salt water
  • UPC: 628309103200

Fitment

  • Use the complete CME1 for a new install, or when the old plug is corroded, rounded off or the zinc has broken off inside it.
  • Already have a good plug? Save money with the CMEZ1 replacement zinc only.
  • Always match diameter, length and plug thread to the anode you're replacing — a pencil that's too long can block coolant passages.

Why zinc for pencil anodes

Zinc is the standard for engine pencil anodes and what most engine manufacturers specify. Aluminum pencils are prone to breaking off at the neck, and the broken piece can end up lodged in coolant passages.

Install tips

  • Close the raw-water seacock and let the engine cool before removing the old anode.
  • Use pipe thread sealant on the plug's NPT threads only. Don't put sealant or tape between the zinc and the plug — it can insulate the zinc and stop it working.
  • Snug the plug down without over-tightening the brass, open the seacock and check for leaks after starting the engine.
